Games in the Classroom Hi!
I confess I'm one of those chaps who would spent all his life playing and playing, mainly in class.
But, let's think about this in a healthy way :? . Games might be useful for learning and not forgeting. Based on this "semi-wise" point of view, what games do you recomment for an English class? :?:
Don't include games with money.

Games in the Classroom Don't include games with money. Oops...
Board games are usually well received in class. I'd like to find out games for TPR (Total Physical Response) or, at least, something to leave the chairs! :D

Total what???
Please, speak English!
That's what I'm talking about! Games for changing the routine!

Total Physical Response It's a kind of method in which learners understand the language by means of "physical responses": they act (do mimics) based on orders, get the idea by imitation, etc.
:D It's frequently used for teaching English to children. And it's so funny!!!
(Don't believe the last part :? )

Games & Adults Hi! :D
I do agree! It's important to realize whether adults are able (and feel able) to do certain kind of activities. The ideal thing is they wanted, but you don't have to push them. They're more serious in that sense, and we have to keep that in mind.
The other warning is about playing only games... A class is not a recreational space but, rather, an educational setting with a purpose.

Ridiculous? In my opinion...
It's not to do ridiculous things. It's to break the ice. If adults don't forget they're adults, they won't dare to do a sort of things they can do to learn in a fun, easy and practical game. Methods like Suggestopedia have as an intention to break the bareer of "being a serious adult". :?
So I wouldn't care if they're adults... It only depends on themselves.
That's my word. :) That's my opinion!

Ridiculous? Shameful? Hi!
I partially agree with you, too. I think Sergio is right:
It does not mean adult people have to do silly things, but it does not mean they have to sit through all the class. What I guess, of course, is that teachers must be very careful when choosing the games or activities. If students don't want to participate, you don't have to push them, unless you see it's not a fact of personality or seriousness but a fact of laziness (it usually happens :? ).
So it's 50/50: Not too much games and recreation; not too much lecture and quiet boring activities. That's it! :!:

So you don't agree the 70% of a successful class depends on the students' attitude, do you?
Ana Milena- 08-28-2005
Student's attitude I do agree :) , but it mainly depends on how the teacher inspires them to participate. If the teacher doesn't set an example, they won't feel encouraged.
That's why sometimes we act like clowns!

Hmm... :?
Alright. Let's say you're right. :P
Now, can we talk about the activities?
(Yep, I gave up)

Games Knowledge Quizes, competitions of abilities, art competitions, physical competitions, memory games, etc.
Let me think about it!

I like memory games, although it's one of my great weaknesses!
Hey! What was I talking about?
Ana Milena- 09-11-2005
Memory
So I guess your memory affected you in your exam!
